Construction and Commissioning of Kaltim-5 2500 mtpd, World's Largest Ammonia Purifier~(™) Plant

Towards the end of 2014 Pupuk Kaltim completed construction of the Kaltim-5 project and started up its 2500 MTPD Ammonia Plant the world's largest, single train Purifier based ammonia plant The plant is licensed by Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) with Purifier Technology incorporated in the flow sheet and is located in Bontang, Borneo Island in East Kalimantan province of Indonesia. The world's largest Purifier based ammonia plant was commissioned successfully in January 2015 with the supply of ammoia to its new 3500 MTPD Urea plant Performance test was successfully completed with net energy compsumption within the guaranteed number, and also the production capacity exeeded the guarantee value. The plant was also proven to successfully produce 2700 MTPD ammonia. This paper presents an overview of the project and its journey through the various stages of project development, design, engineering, construction and commissioning as well as challenges encountered throughout the project
