The False Interpretation of Boiler Drum Level - An Analytical Approach

It is necessary to pay attention to the 'false level' problem during the rapid pressure changes leading to a wild change of the drum water level during the boiler operation process. If incorrect decision are made on basis of the 'false level' phenomenon, the action can lead to an unplanned shutdown and possible very serious boiler damage. Then, whether the 'false level' is a real level inside the boiler drum or not? When the 'false level' happened, does the level indication match the true drum water level or not? This paper will do a thorough analysis and well present research regarding the 'false level' event that happened during the process of the boiler operation from the real world. It will expound the reason caused the 'false level' and the expression forms of the 'false level'. The conclusion we reached is that the 'false level' is actually the true water level increase inside the drum, and there is no evidence of instrument failure or errors. The instruments in the event showed the true level inside the drum throughout the entire event. This paper services as guidance regarding safe and reliable boiler operation.
