In this paper, we introduce the design andimplementation procedure of the Chinese new digital radiosystem in FM band --- China Digital Radio (CDR).Comparing with the current systems, CDR system hasfollowing main key features: optimized parameter sets forFM/MW channel characters, flexible spectrum occupymodes to feed the needs of future analog switch-off, newFEC (forward error correction) scheme to ensure its systemperformance. Due to these new features, CDR system hasbeen proved that it has better performance in the laboratoryand field test than other currently digital radio systems. Thespecification of CDR system had been released as industrialstandard in 2013 by Chinese government. After more thanone year’s test and preparation, the industry chain of CDRsystem is ready. By the end of 2014, Chinese governmentstarted a national coverage project, which will greatlyimprove the rollout progress of CDR system. Most of thelarge and medium cities in China will have coverage by thenew digital radio services in the middle of 2016.
