Design and Implementation of China Digital Radio System

In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation procedure of the Chinese new digital radio system in FM band --- China Digital Radio (CDR). Comparing with the current systems, CDR system has following main key features: optimized parameter sets for FM/MW channel characters, flexible spectrum occupy modes to feed the needs of future analog switch-off, new FEC (forward error correction) scheme to ensure its system performance. Due to these new features, CDR system has been proved that it has better performance in the laboratory and field test than other currently digital radio systems. The specification of CDR system had been released as industrial standard in 2013 by Chinese government. After more than one year’s test and preparation, the industry chain of CDR system is ready. By the end of 2014, Chinese government started a national coverage project, which will greatly improve the rollout progress of CDR system. Most of the large and medium cities in China will have coverage by the new digital radio services in the middle of 2016.
