The Bluecopter Demonstrator project, launched in 2011 and still running at the submission date of the abstract, aims at proving the feasibility of future eco-friendly helicopter concepts, demonstrating "green" technologies in flight, and testing "transversal" technologies for potential serial application on all helicopter classes of Airbus Helicopters [1]. The project addresses three main streams: a reduction of the power required, an increase of the power available, and noise reduction. The proposed paper focusses on the first two streams, while noise reduction is addressed in [2].
