The influence of pH, ionic strength, Ca~(2+)on the adhesive interactions of Streptococcus mutans with a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic substrate was investigated. The preliminary study indicates that hydrophobic substrates in acidic or calcium solutions promote the adhesive interaction.
