1. Decentralized generation and storage technologies play a significant role in the future energy system of Basel in the cost optimal solution2. Total discounted system costs reduced by approx. 8% in decentralized and storage scenarios compared to the baseline case3. Building-level gas CHP and PV enable the community to reduce grid electricity imports by approx. 50%, moving towards self-sufficiency4. Decentralized technologies enable reduced and deferred transmission grid upgrades5. Storage technologies enable increased use of PV technologies, resulting in further transmission grid upgrade deferrals/capacity reductions6. Carbon pricing policies effective in reducing local CO_2 emissions from fossil fuels.
