On the Relevance of Economic Expectations, Ideological Identification, and Social Values and Norms for the Acceptance of the German Energy Transition: A Micro-econometric Analysis

1. Estimation results suggest relevance of economic costs and benefits for acceptance of policy measures like ener-gy transition2. This suggests that energy transition should be implemen-ted as cost efficient as possible to restrict energy price increases in order to increase acceptance3. However, empirical analysis also reveals that many citizens expect increasing energy prices that are not due to measures of energy transition (e.g. costs for final disposal of radioactive waste or for environmental and climate damages by coal power plants)4. More extensive discussion of such costs might further increase acceptance of energy transition.
