In this paper, support vector regression (SVR) is proposed to identifythe unknown hydrodynamic coefficients in the coupled heave-pitchmotion equations of ships in regular waves based on the measuredresponses. Firstly, the coupled heave-pitch motions of two vesselmodels in regular waves are simulated, and then the hydrodynamiccoefficients in the coupled equations are identified by using thesimulated responses. The good agreements between the identifiedcoefficients and the known values show that SVR can be effectivelyapplied to identify the coefficients in the coupled heave-pitch motion inregular waves of ships.
