The growing energy consumption and the shortage of the fossil energy sources necessitate the search for alternative energy carriers. In this regard, hydrogen is a safe and versatile energy carrier which can be produced via water electrolysis using renewable energy sources ("green hydrogen"). For a commercial H2-based energy cycle (mobile application) the production costs of green hydrogen must drop below 6 €/Nm~3. Therefore, the long-term efficiency of the electrolysis needs to be improved by developing more active electrode materials for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).[1-3]
