The paper aims to analyze and improve stability profile of transmission system of Makran area of Baluchistan, Pakistan, with help of different reactive power compensating devices. To maintain the flow of active power in a power system, adequate supply of reactive power is essential; maintenance of voltage stability confirms this reactive supply. Whenever the system fails to meet its voltage demand and retain stability due to some failure in generation or transmission system, voltage collapse occur. In current study case, addition of a solar plant to a bus in the power system resulted in instability. For which reactive compensation is achieved by Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) of various ratings. Load flow analysis and stability analysis on PSS/E provided adequate solutions to understand and overcome the issue. Study of effect of various disturbances and then comparative analysis of results helped in reaching a conclusion of best suited compensating device.
