Space-vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) computations are complex particularly for multilevel converters. This paper introduces a novel SVPWM computation method for multilevel converters. General formulas for the region identification as well as for PWM intervals calculation are proposed. Then, the proposed formulas are applied to the advanced dual three-level T-type converter topology. The operation of this advanced topology applied to an open end winding induction machine (OEWIM) is discussed in more details. A simulation study for the proposed AC drive system is performed by using Matlab™/Simulink®. A hardware implementation based on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for the advanced topology supplying an OEWIM is presented, discussed and analysed. The computation algorithm is built within the FPGA digital controller. A comparison between experimental and simulation results is performed. It is observed that the simulation and the experimental results are agreed and verified the proposed algorithm.
