The authors have been studying non-contact hybrid brakes by combining an eddy current brake and a magneto-rheological fluid brake as next generation brakes in aircraft. In this paper, using a cylindrical magneto-rheological fluid brake experimentation machine, the brake torque was measured at high temperature, so that braking torque and time constant characteristics were evaluated. V-Co-Fe magneto-rheological fluid was used at 300 degrees. As temperature increased, oil viscosity decreased and the off-torque also decreased. Braking torque increased by 60% at 300 degrees. It is thought that the concentration of MRF particles increased and braking torque increased due to the vaporization of silicon oil.
