Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) mounted on Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) surface is designed, investigated, and simulated. The EBG surface is based on using mushroom cells. The achieved band gap is covering the band ratio of 1:2.67. The proposed antenna has an operating bandwidth of 31.5 % with gain of 6.7 dB. The gain is improved by at least 2 dB if compared with the antenna without EBG or any other reflecting surface underneath. This design is thinner if compared to other antennas that use a metallic plate or reflector strips.
