A new marina has been planned in Ayia Napa Cyprus. The Ayia Napa region of Cyprus is a popular tourist destination known for its pristine waters and spectacular white sand recreational beaches. During construction, the major potential impact is suspended sediment in the water column. Suspended load could impact water clarity and shoreline sediment texture. The spread behavior of a sediment laden plume was evaluated with a state of the art numerical model using a variety of wave and wind input conditions considering various possible generating sources including dredging, land reclamation and breakwater construction. Mitigation measures were then proposed and evaluated with advanced numerical modeling to provide a framework where the beaches in Ayia Napa will not be affected by the construction of the new marina.
