Upconversion NaGdF4 nanocrystals with strong upconversion luminescence were synthesized by a general solvothermal method. The size and absorption of these NaGdF4 upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) can be easily modulated by the doping. Furthermore, we developed a novel model by distributing NaGdF4 nanoparticles in PMMA (UCNPs@PMMA), which can be used to directly present the absorption of nanoparticles to the infrared laser and the decay process of the infrared laser, through the green fluorescence. The related absorption mechanisms were discussed.
