In this paper, a simulation study on dynamics and polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) imaging of chaff clouds is presented. Based three aerodynamic models of chaff, which are modified based on laboratory observations, the diffusion characteristics of the chaff clouds in the case of three typical distributions are analyzed in detail. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the initial orientation distribution and velocity of chaff clouds determine the distribution density and shape after diffusion. On this basis, combined with the polarization scattering model of chaff, the effect of chaff motion on PolSAR imaging is analyzed quantitatively and the imaging results of chaff clouds are also presented in PolSAR. This paper may provide theoretical models and foundation for anti-chaff jamming.
