For satellite digital audio radio services (SDARS), a new channel model of wave propagation in areas underneath dense foliage is presented. The model enables investigation of simultaneous satellite radio reception of multiple diversity antennas in time domain. It covers multipath wave propagation in a Rayleigh and Rician fading scenario, shadowing by dense foliage and the characteristics of integrated car antennas depending on the mounting position. The new channel model is evaluated via comparison with measured results. For this comparison, real scenario test drives are performed to record and analyze SDARS antenna signals. The histograms of the simulated signal amplitudes show very good agreement with the measured test drive results.
