Design of a Vibration Isolator for the Inertial Navigation System of an Autopilot Dedicated to the Operation of Light Drones

One of the key components in drone autopilots is the air navigation system that uses the raw output of the MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) sensor to estimate drone states (angular position, angular velocity, linear position and linear velocity) in real time. However, the vibrations of the drone have an important impact on the measurement from the sensors. In this study, a new isolation system for the autopilot electronic card is presented. An experimental study is conducted to understand the environment on which the autopilot is exposed. According to the source of vibration, the target performances of the isolator are identified and the design of the geometry that meets this requirement is proposed. By using the finite element analysis, modal and harmonics analysis have been conducted to analyze the effectiveness of the model. A design has been proposed to isolate the vibration source by 80%.
