DC bus signaling (DBS) is a decentralized coordination strategy for power management of DC microgrid. However, the main problem with DBS is that it needs enough offset of the DC bus voltage to set the thresholds to signal mode transitions of the local units, which will lead to a large deviation of the bus voltage. This paper proposes a DBS-based coordination strategy through masked sensing (mDBS) to improve the DC bus voltage. With the proposed mDBS, the bus voltage is sensed, and the coordination of the local units is enabled by the masked offset of the sensed voltage. In this case, while the masked offset observed from the DBS controller is high enough, the offset, in reality, is controlled within a small range, and thus the bus voltage can be improved. Simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink environment verify the proposed control strategy.
