In this paper, a unique approach to the analysis of an elementary dipole using finite element method (FEM) is presented in a step by step manner. This approach is also extended to a linear dipole array accommodating array factor method. The approach considered here is based on solution of partial differential equations using FEM. Near field and far field pattern of a single dipole element and a linear array of ten dipole element is discussed in the result section. The result obtained using FEM is compared with the result obtained using the standard software used worldwide. The comparison indicates that the FEM analysis considered for the antenna design is accurate enough and can be applied to other single elements and arrays of any arbitrary geometrical shape.
