IP infrastructure has been used for more than adecade to deliver premium video services. The initialsolutions were implemented in fully managed operatornetworks, addressing a limited set of device types, typicallyset-top boxes. The last five years have seen a transition to amuch more complex world, where adaptive streamingtechnologies are used to deliver video to a multitude ofdevices over different types of network. Mobile devices andPCs are now common terminals and more and more trafficis delivered over wireless networks. This paper will exploresome of the challenges encountered when trying to maintainvideo quality under these new conditions.
