This paper presents studies on mixtures of ammonium nitrate (AN) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) in ratio 90:10. Test samples were taken at various heating temperature: 100 °C, 125 °C, 145 °C. Studies were performed by using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. By raising the heating temperature is register formation of ordered structure in the tested mixtures, which increase their explosive characteristics. Diagrams of XRD correlate with the studies of CEM, showing the structure order of the melt in comparison with the mixture main components AN and HMTA. This paper provides useful information for specialist dealings with improvised explosives.
