An electrostatic, noncontact method is proposed which permits the measurement of two-phase flow parameters: the average velocity of flow and volume loading or mass flow rate. This method was previously tested and used in the measurements of moving electric charges carried by solid particles in pipelines of pneumatic transport and is now being tried out and developed in flow parameter measurements with promising results. The basic principle of the method and a computer-based measuring system that has been built on the basis of the method for measuring electric charges are presented. The system can operate in technological installations for controlling the flow and technological parameters, and also for assessing the fire and/or explosion hazards wherever pneumatic transport of particulates is used.
