This paper starts with a brief overview of oil shale technologies in general and on those proposed to be used in Jordan, including in-situ conversion or surface retorting. The pros and cons considering all environmental and economic aspects will be presented. Other factors will also be explained as they relate to what method will be best for utilizing Jordanian oil shale. A detailed presentation will be made regarding the new method based on solvents extraction of shale oil at room temperature, which is termed the "Cold Extraction Method" which has been developed for use in the laboratory but has not tested on a large scale. A comparative study between this new approach and other promising methods will be presented. The conclusions drawn from this study will also be outlined.
