ENERGY RATING LABEL FOR PV MODULES FOR IMPROVING ENERGY YIELD PREDICTION IN DIFFERENT CLIMATES

This study concerns the development of an energy yield rating label for PV modules for different climates in addition to the traditional nominal power value at STC. We discuss the need for an energy yield rating concept, which is using the Module Performance Ratio (MPR) as determining parameter, and we point out the challenges of a technology-independent and time-independent energy rating. We accordingly measured the Module Performance Ratio (MPR) of 15 PV modules in four different climate zones. Besides the MPR, we introduced the Module Performance Ratio Index (MPRI) to compare the energy yield performance of different PV modules against a standard c-Si PV module. The results can be used to create an energy yield rating label that is independent of annual meteorological fluctuations. The purpose of this study is to reduce the uncertainty for energy yield predictions and thus to facilitate the bankability of PV systems.
