Targeted Gaps in Adhesive Bonding Performance

The development roots for the ARL-ADHES-QA-001 SPD series date back to 2008. The Adhesives and Interfaces Research Team's technical portfolio shifted in the 2002 - 2008 timeframe to substantial weighting in meeting the immediate operational needs of the Soldier in Afghanistan and Iraq, during Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, respectively. While significant experience was gained, subsequent internal assessments exposed both tremendous limitations and opportunities for expansion in the state-of-the-art in adhesive bonding, from aspects of both performance and acquisition procedures. The ARL-ADHES-QA-001 SPD series is an effort to leverage modern data management capability with rigorous testing standard protocols with minimal risk-adverseness.
