Stall Maneuver Simulation of an elastic Transport Aircraft based on Flight Test Data

Within the German national research project HINVA (High-lift INflight VAlidation) the prediction of maximum lift of realistic transport aircraft configurations should be improved. To understand also the dynamic aerodynamic and aeroelastic effects of a transport aircraft in high lift configuration during a realistic stall maneuver a simulation strategy was set up to capture unsteady flow phenomena as well as the aircraft's deformation due to the aerodynamic loads during a representative stall maneuver. A realistic movement of the aircraft during the stall maneuver was achieved by using the movement data recorded during a stall maneuver in the HINVA flight test campaign in July 2012. This paper will show the process chain set up using the DLR flow solver TAU and the commercial finite-element code NASTRAN and will compare the numerical results to flight test data.
