The Nanode™ is a three dimensional nanostructured conductive membrane onto which active battery material is applied to create a range of electrodes for high capacity and high power batteries. The extremely high surface area of the membrane, along with its porous structure, is particularly beneficial for two electrode chemistries. The Nickel Nanode™ is a cathode for nickel-based batteries in which the energy capacity is retained close to its maximum at high charge and discharge rates, even above 120C. The Tin Nanode™ is an anode for lithium ion batteries in which the tin alloy expansion is accommodated by the porous structure, minimising the overall electrode expansion. The Nanode™ range can be made using materials and processes proven for large scale manufacturing and it provides cost advantages by reducing the quantity of nickel in the electrode compared to nickel foam, and by eliminating the current collector foil and binders required in graphite anodes for lithium ion batteries.
