This paper presents successful measurements of post shock temperature in a shock tube facility. The measured temperature behind the incident and reflected shock wave compares well with the prediction of a 1-dimensional, inviscid calculation. Scan frequencies of 10,50 and 100 kHz were used and the effect on the measurement accuracy is discussed. The maximal deviation from the calculation is within 2.5%. The standard deviation calculated for six measurements was approximately constant for all investigations and within the same order as the uncertanties introduced by the test facility and the data processing. The upper limit of the scan frequency is limited by the bandwidth limitation of the photo reciever used.
