Understanding the physical and mixing characteristics of transverse jets in a supersonic freestream has important application in supersonic combustion and attitude control applications. Using jets of different molecular weights is one way of studying the behaviour of different gases used for combustion applications. Employing different gases for attitude control of supersonics and hypersonic vehicles may also be beneficial due to the different mixing rates and hence variable amounts of forces and moments produced. The results revealed that using different gases creates only minute changes in the flow characteristics. This is an important conclusion which implies that when studying or applying jet mixing and injection technology, there is minimal sensitivity to jet medium.
