CURRENT STATUS OF ABSOLUTE GRAVIMETRY

Present-day absolute gravimetry is characterized by an increasing number of absolute ballistic gravimeters and by growing needs for absolute measurements of free fall acceleration to handle the problems facing the geodesy like the realization of the system for global geophysical observations GGOS of International Association of Geodesy. Currently absolute ballistic gravimeters based on the realization of free motion in gravity field of macroscopic test body or the cloud of cold atoms are most commonly used in the measurements of free fall acceleration. Relative instrumental uncertainty of the best absolute gravimeters in the measurement of free fall acceleration can reach a few parts in 10~9. A system of metrological assurance of absolute ballistic gravimeters based on the primary measurement standards -absolute gravimeters and on the system of calibration of secondary measurement standards and working measuring instruments - absolute gravimeters has already started to form.
