Simulation of Hypersonic Flow within Electromagnetic Fields for Heat Flux Mitigation

摘要

A numerical method to simulate non-equilibrium hypersonic flows within electromagnetic fields has been developed. Such a flowfield is described by coupled sets of equations for the species conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, Maxwell's equation, and equations for nonequilibrium chemistry. The solver is verified and validated with experimental data provided by Ziemer for shock stand-off distance and provided by Gulhan et al. for heat flux mitigation. The numerical results show an excellent match with previously published data.
