Various travelling-wave antennas such as leaky-wave antennas and waveguide slot antennas achieve frequency scanning inherently. In additional, high antenna gain is achieved due especially to their electrically large structure. This paper presents a detailed study of a substrate integrated waveguide leaky wave antenna radiating in Ku Band with a periodic set of T shaped slot based on TE10 mode. The direction of the main lobe of the antenna radiation pattern can be steered by changing the frequency from backward to forward direction. Modelling and performance evaluation of the resulting antenna is carried out using the commercially available EM simulator HFSS, from Ansoft Corporation. Furthermore, the proposed antenna exhibits good radiation characteristics at the resonant bands. The simulated results of S-parameters and radiation patterns are presented. All the results show that the proposed design serves as a suitable candidate for applications in millimetre-wave road vehicle system or indoor wireless system.
