Bangladesh, the world's second-largest apparel exporter of western brands is facing daunting energy crisis as the existing natural resources are shrinking. To maintain the current economic growth, it is crucial to meet the incremental energy demand. Integration of renewable energy resources could possibly help meeting the accumulative energy demand, thus ensuring stable economic growth. This paper represents a case study of integrating a solar microgrid and associated energy storage system in a RMG factory where the economic and environmental impacts are studied. System optimization, cost calculation, and emission profile analysis was carried out with the help of Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables (HOMER) software. The case study concludes that the integration of solar microgrid could offer less environmental pollution as well as higher economic benefits.
