Presently, high chromium cast irons, spherical vanadium carbide cast irons and multi-component white cast irons are used as wear resistant materials. They are expensive because Cr, Ni, Mo, V, W etc. is added. It's possible to reduce costs by suppressing the addition of these elements. Therefore, it's intended to develop an inexpensive wear resistant material in this study. 10 mass%, 7.5 mass% and 5mass% V cast irons with nil, 4.5 and 9 mass% Cr were prepared in order to investigate their erosive wear resistance.The solid particle erosion tests were conducted using irregularly shaped steel grits of 770um, 810HV with impact angles between 30 ° and 90 ° and a particle velocity of 100 m/s.Result of erosive wear test revealed that impact angle dependencies of 12Cr, 10V-9Cr, 7.5V-9Cr and 5V-9Cr become small, but there observed differences for erosion rates for them. Erosion rate of 10V-9Cr, 7.5V-9Cr and 5V-9Cr are 1/3 of that of 12Cr. Also, they're 1/2 of that of 17Cr. In order to characterize erosion behavior of them, hardness measurement was undertaken. EDS and XRD analysis also used to determine the carbide volume fraction and retained austenite in structure.
