This paper describes several Airbus Helicopters activities conducted in the frame of the Clean Sky Green Rotorcraft Integrated Technology Demonstrator program. These activities involve the development of noise abatement approach procedures for the EC155 Dolphin helicopter in Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations. The work presented herein covers all the major steps for simulating / developing noise abatement flight procedures; from the generation of an aeroacoustic database out of dedicated flight tests, to the design of a noise footprint computation chain coupled to an optimizer. This process, constrained herein by IFR-specific limitations and applied to the EC155 Dolphin helicopter, allows deriving three potential effects to be taken into account when designing noise abatement procedure: emission (source noise), geometry, and ground speed gains. The noise abatement procedures were tested against reference procedures during dedicated flight tests, and the predicted gains were confirmed both in location and order of magnitude.
