The gathering of large number of pedestrians in a confined spatial configuration has already triggered several tragedy crowd disasters, such as the Love Parade incidents. To explore the dynamics of massive crowd movement, the present study analyzed the video surveillance recordings of the Love Parade festival. Trajectories for each individual in the recording has been extracted, based on which detailed individual movement features including the speed fluctuation, velocity increment distribution, together with the overall flow field features such as the structure function, stream lines and speed distribution have been investigated. Special pedestrian movement features right before the burst of unusual crowd movement pattern, crowd quakes, have been summarized.
