Modern railway asset management foresees the collection of a several data in order to monitorinfrastructure conditions. Nowadays the infrastructure monitoring task is accomplished by highperformance measuring devices able to collect huge amount of data, among which rail alignmentdefect may play a critical role since they may affect safe train operation and therefore maintenanceinterventions. In this paper a new analysis approach following a large experimental measurementcampaign carried out on a suburban narrow-gauge railway network operating in the Naplesmetropolitan area is presented. The data have been obtained using the Plasser device (POS/TGSystem), directly mounted on a vehicle Fe ETR 220’s wheelset during its regular operation. Trackcant, level, gauge and twist have been collected several times a year since 2009 to 2011 with a 25cm sampling interval. Preliminary results seem to indicate that by coupling track geometric dataanalyzed so far with alignment and traffic, a more effective evaluation of track defect can beobtained.
