In this paper, two mathematical models for vector-borne disease are constructed for the prediction of the transmission of Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) by western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (WFT), considering time delay effects and age structures. The purpose of the work is to provide mathematical analysis of the model and discuss some significant results that arise from the interplay of biological forces. Tomato spotted wilt virus is a plant-infecting virus that impacts many food and ornamental crops, resulting in crop disease epidemics and huge economic loss. TSWV is transmitted exclusively by thrips, the most efficient of which is WFT. There is no single management method which can be adopted to control these insects, and combinations of different management options, while they may reduce the problem, still do not easily control them. This research is intended to use mathematical models to study the disease transmission effects. Through the preliminary results, we discuss the impacts of potential mitigation strategies.
