The Triangle Rotary Filler is designed for continuous motion filling of rigid containers with products such as meatballs, chicken, potatoes, and ravioli. The speeds of the machine can range from 80/min to over 300/min depending on the method of fill. This machine has been put on Nestle's Line 5 in Gaffney, SC. The hopes are to do enough performance testing on this machine so that we can duplicate the design to production lines 1, 8, and 9 all by February of 2008. The goal of the project was to verify that the rotary feeds are beneficial to implement on Lines 1, 8, and 9. The key factors were labor savings, elimination of scrap on the line, performance based on missed trays, clogs, bouncing, or not adequate amount of food placed in trays. The problems that most commonly arise during the operation of the Rotary Feeds on the Triangle Filler are missed trays. The machine does not dispense any or enough amount of product onto the tray forcing touch up personnel to hand place in the product. The hope for the amount of missed trays is less than 5%. Currently the rate of missed trays is around 13%.
