Electrical and mechanical modelling of a porcelain insulator utilising FEM

摘要

A method used for the modelling and analysis, utilising FEM, of the behaviour study of a 36 kV outdoor post insulator made of porcelain and designed to support 30 electrical lines in substations is presented in this paper. The behaviour of the insulator is electrically and mechanically simulated. The electrical analysis carried out simulates the behaviour of the insulator at commercial frequency (AC withstand test) under rain. The mechanical analysis carried out simulates the behaviour of the insulator under compression and flexion conditions. The electrical simulation is carried out by means of current flow analysis, thus, the potential and electric field distribution are determined, while the mechanical simulation is accomplished by means of a 3D linear static analysis, thus, stresses and displacements are determined.
