The operational perspective and the interactionwith air traffic control is essential for a detectand avoid system for remotely piloted aircraft.We report on performed human in the loopsimulations and related workshops that studiedthis in three simulation campaigns, focusing onmid-air collision. Results and conclusionsinclude technical recommendations as well aslessons learned. Contributions includerecommendations for design and validation of the MIDCAS concept as well as domain specificresults concerning detect and avoid for remotelypiloted aircraft as an example of adaptiveinteraction for future air systems, withrelevance to the integration of remotely pilotedaircraft into civil airspace.
