Pharmaceuticals and Other Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Source and Treated Drinking Water

Paired source and treated drinking water samples were collected from 25 drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) across the United States, and analyzed for 251 chemical and microbial contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), including 111 Pharmaceuticals and their metabolites. Fifty-four Pharmaceuticals were detected at least once in the source water, 36 were measured at least once in the treated drinking water. This presentation will discuss occurrence and concentration of Pharmaceuticals and other CECs, as well as place the concentrations measured in drinking water into context through a margin of exposure risk assessment.
