摘要

Powered Two-Wheelers' (PTW) safety challenges are very much different from cars. Even if motorcycles and maxi-scooters easily travelling at the speeds of cars and beyond over thirty meters per second. PTW, i.e. motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, and the riders constitute a significant and different category among VRUs. The PTW riders cover about 2-5% of the vehicle fleet in rotation but their share of the fatal and serious accidents is around 17-22% depending on the source and studies. Due to the speed they travel and - at the same time -being very much unprotected, riders are far more vulnerable than any other user category sharing the same traffic environment. This implies that in the crashes between PTWs and other vehicles, the physical damage is much greater for the riders than for car and other vehicle occupants. Rider and PTW safety measures will be discussed below.
