VEHICLE TELEMATICS: A KEY ELEMENT TO AN ECODRIVING STRATEGY IN COMMERCIAL VEHICLE FLEETS

Ecodriving has significant potential to reduce fuel consumption when drivers are trained and educated in energy-efficient driving techniques. Despite this great potential, the positive impact of training in energy-efficient driving is time limited. This positive effect of training is usually maintained for a period of three to six months after which a significant decrease is observed, particularly with respect to the application of ecodriving techniques. Today, vehicle telematics opens the door to real-time feedback in the vehicle (in-cab monitoring and coaching) and periodic evaluation of driving habits and energy efficiency performance. For commercial fleets, telematics becomes a key element to maintain the positive impact of ecodriving techniques.
