Investigation of the Efficacy of Information Provision Services

Systems that comprise Japan's ITS, such as road-vehicle communications and cellular network communications, are constructed independently from one another. However, recently in Europe and the US, field tests are being conducted involving cooperative ITS based on government policies, and international standards are being advanced. Thus, the development of cooperative ITS is also important for the international deployment of Japan's ITS technology. On the basis of this situation, we at NILIM are conducting research on the next generation of cooperative ITS, which will realize a variety of ITS service applications through cooperation between vehicles, infrastructure, and data center equipment. We conducted a participant experiment to grasp the validity of "linked services for mobile communications and ITS spots" realized through cooperative ITS and analyzed the results. Moreover, by deploying the associative service at the ITS World Congress showcase in Tokyo and conducting questionnaire surveys with participants, we gained useful insight for improvements to the system, such as features that approximately 90% of participants desired. This paper reports on those results.
