Today many regions and municipalities maintain high-quality traffic information and regional traffic management strategies. While this information is often used by regionally operated routing services, the potential of this knowledge usually remains untapped for transregional routing or car navigation systems. We propose a distributed routing approach which integrates regional knowledge into transregional navigation systems. Existing interfaces and standards are used to extract route segments from regional route information services and make them available in transregional vehicle routing. The approach has been developed and demonstrated in the Austrian research project TROIA by integrating the regional traffic information system of ITS Vienna Region with the car navigation service of BMW.
