While the cost of onboard Connected Vehicle technology will be passed along in the cost of the vehicle, the cost of roadside Connected Vehicle Infrastructure will likely be financed by state and local agencies. Rather than being a cost burden, the transition to Connected Vehicle technology can be funded from existing budgets with dollars to spare. This paper presents a Net Present Value financial study of a Connected Vehicle corridor compared to a corridor using traditional technology. The results include the 10-year Total Cost of Ownership of the installation and maintenance of traditional equipment versus that of a single Connected Vehicle Roadside Equipment transponder and associated software applications license fee as well as the savings in fuel and travel time offered by the Adaptive control software algorithm.
