Preparing a Possible Oregon Road Map for Connected Vehicle/Cooperative Systems Deployment Scenarios

Safety remains a problem on roadways in the United States for travelers, shippers and the economy, who are also exposed to increasing amounts of congestion, unreliability, increased delay, emissions and excess energy consumption, which all impede the efficient movement of people and goods. In response, a major research program in the U.S. toward implementing connected vehicle safety technologies, applications and systems using dedicated, short-range wireless communications is nearing completion. Results from this research will specifically guide Oregon's preparation for future implementation of a connected vehicle system portfolio and help the state determine whether to take an early national leadership role and/or avoid being caught by surprise as developments in this area rapidly evolve. In addition, the State of Oregon will be better informed on pursuing the next phases of related federal application funding and assessing opportunities to join projects with other partners.
